Below is what will hopefully become a collection of thoughts on my meandering path towards a career in illustration.

I am content doing most things, but am happiest making art...

(And tell everyone how awesome the poster is. : )
It’s been awhile, but luckily that is because I’ve been busy. Here is one of the things I have been working on in my free time... The Groovefest 2011 Poster, Yay!

This is for a great (And free!) music festival held in Cedar City Utah. I had a good ole time working on this project. It is so refreshing to be given free-creative-reign!

Hope you enjoy, and ya’ll should check the FEST out, it will be June 22-26 .

See ya there!
I finished this project quite some time ago, and you can view a digital version of the article it illustrates at...
http://www.sagewoman.com/issues/sw-80/sw-80flashview.html

I have been wanting to illustrate with a more hand created look, and this project was a good opportunity to experiment a bit.

They are meant to represent two different mythologies drawn from for the article “Crossroads” to be found in this years Yuletide issue of Sage Woman Magazine.

The top figure is Skeleton Woman. She is from an Inuit myth about a woman cast into the ocean by her angry father, only to be later fished out as a living skeleton by a kind fisherman. It is a beautiful and creepy story about redemption through love. I was given the challenge of interpreting it visually through the eyes of the Crossroads African American author Cathleen Bailey.

Below is Elegba, one of the gods worshiped in the Yoruba religion. He is a trickster of sorts, whose actions are meant to guide individuals towards their meant path in life. There are many carved sculptures of him, most with seashells used for his eyes.

The article, written by Cathleen Bailey, is very inspiring as are all the other writings found in Sage Woman Magazine.

If you are interested in learning more about Sage Woman, you view a free digital magazine at... http://www.sagewoman.com/

Enjoy!

Christmas present.

So, I thought the puppies would be the perfect focus of our holiday card.

I hope it was a great one for all!
